Overnight spraying is normal. Constant spraying is not. How to tell.
Quick answer: Aerobic septic sprinklers that pop on at night are usually normal, most systems are timed to spray treated water overnight. Sprinklers running constantly, during rain, or spraying cloudy or smelly water are not normal: that points to a stuck float, failed treatment, or an overloaded pump tank, and it needs service.
An aerobic system treats wastewater, disinfects it with chlorine, and disposes of it through spray heads across your lawn. Many systems in Ellis County are configured on a timer to spray in the pre-dawn hours, when nobody is in the yard and evaporation loss is lowest. If your sprinklers fire around the same time each night and run for a bounded stretch, that is the design working.

Stuck or tangled float switch. The pump tank’s floats tell the pump when to run. A float hung on its cord or fouled runs the pump far too often, or not at all.
Water getting in that should not. Rainwater infiltrating through lids, risers, or the tank seams overfills the pump tank and forces frequent spraying. If spraying tracks the weather, this is the lead suspect.
A leak upstream. A running toilet quietly feeds the system hundreds of gallons a day, and the system dutifully sprays it back out.
Failed treatment upstream. If the water being sprayed is gray or odorous, the aerator or chlorinator has failed and the spray field is receiving undertreated water. Properly treated and chlorinated effluent is considered safe for lawn disposal, but it is not irrigation water and children and pets should not play in the spray. Undertreated water, gray, cloudy, or smelly, should be treated as sewage until the system is repaired.
No. The spray layout is part of the permitted design. Capping heads overloads the rest and can put you out of compliance. Relocating heads is possible but goes through a licensed provider and, often, the county.
Not necessarily. A dead pump with a failed alarm float is silent until the backup. If you have not seen them spray in over a week of normal water use, have it checked.
