It straddles the Dallas and Ellis county line, and its zoning carries 1-acre and 5-acre minimum lot sizes, so the population has only moved from about 4,304 in 2020 to roughly 4,624 in 2025 while everything around it doubled. USDA mapping puts Houston Black at under 8 percent here. What dominates is Austin silty clay at roughly 47 percent, plus about 21 percent Eddy and 11 percent Stephen. Eddy and Stephen are shallow-to-bedrock soils on the White Rock escarpment, with high gravel content and slopes that run past 8 percent. So the failure mode in Ovilla is usually not that water will not move, it is that there is not enough soil above the chalk, or the slope is too steep. That changes the system design and it changes the excavation.
