Venus sits at the southwest edge of the area in the 76084 ZIP, straddling the Ellis and Johnson county line. It is rural and growing, with a lot of acreage and horse property, and nearly everything out here is on septic. Aerobic spray systems are the norm on the newer builds because the ground does not drain well enough for conventional fields.

Venus has close to doubled since 2020, from about 4,532 to roughly 8,870 by 2025 (U.S. Census Bureau), which makes it the fastest-growing town in this service area by percentage. It sits on US 67 about 8 miles southwest of our shop, which makes it one of the quickest calls we run. Most of the town is in Johnson County with a piece in Ellis.
Venus is the purest Blackland clay in this whole service area. USDA mapping close to town runs about 66 percent Heiden and 31 percent Houston Black, so roughly 97 percent of the ground is deep shrink-swell clay. Both are hydrologic group D with saturated conductivity around 0.03 inches per hour. In practice that means two things: a conventional gravity drain field is not going to pass a site evaluation on most lots, and the seasonal cracking in these clays is hard on tanks, risers and spray lines. Heiden also runs on slopes up to 14 percent around here, which adds a slope limit on top of the texture limit.
Venus is not a TCEQ authorized agent, so the permit comes from the county. On the Johnson County side, which is most of the town, that is Johnson County Development Services at 2 N Mill Street in Cleburne. On the Ellis County side it is the Ellis County Department of Development in Waxahachie. Because Venus straddles the line and the county records list their coverage as unincorporated area, it is worth one phone call to confirm the right office before you file. We do that check as part of any install or major repair.

Most of Venus is in Johnson County, so it is usually Johnson County Development Services in Cleburne. The eastern piece of town is in Ellis County, handled by the Ellis County Department of Development. Venus itself is not an authorized agent. Because of how the county coverage is worded, we confirm the office on every job rather than assume.
It can. Heiden and Houston Black clays around Venus crack an inch or more wide and stay open for months. That movement stresses tank seals, risers and spray lines, and it can shear a lateral over time. If you are seeing wet spots or odor after a dry spell, the cracking is worth checking as a cause.
The city operates a wastewater treatment plant, but sewer lines only reach so far. Acreage lots outside the sewered core and in the unincorporated area around town are on private systems, and with the pace of building here a lot of new construction is going in ahead of any line extension.
It is about 8 miles from Midlothian on US 67, roughly 12 minutes. Venus is one of the closest towns we serve, so same-day is normal here rather than a stretch.
