The classic: tank plus gravel-trench drain field, no moving parts, no electricity. Solids settle, liquid percolates through soil, done. If your soil evaluation passes for one, it is the cheapest system to buy and own. The catch locally: most Ellis County lots fail the evaluation because Blackland clay percs too slowly. An ATU is a miniature wastewater plant: trash tank, aeration chamber where forced air supercharges bacterial digestion, disinfection by chlorine or UV, then a pump tank that spray-irrigates the treated water. Because treatment happens in the tanks rather than the soil, clay stops being a problem.
